The Phillies appeared to be a late entrant into Cliff Lee sweepstakes but it’s not where you start but where you finish because the left handed signed on to what is now the best rotation in baseball. Lee signed what was essentially a six year deal with five of those guaranteed but in all, Lee should make $120 million. With Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels in the fold, it’s looking like a good year for Phillies fans. I know who I’ll be placing my bets on this year at https://www.gamebookers.com!
This makes losing Werth a complete non-issue. When you combine this with the Phillies offense (that hopefully stays healthy), this team should win 110 games in what’s shaping up to be only an okay division. Of course anything could happen and that’s why they play all of those games. Needless to say, get your Phillies tickets now while you still can because this may be the hottest ticket going.
Baseball America put out the Phillies top ten prospect list and like in year’s past, the Phillies have some talent. Domonic Brown comes in at number one and he’s major league ready with 62 big league at bats under his belt. You hope this is the guy who makes Phillies fans forget who Jayson Werth was because that’s who he’s taking over for.
Number two is Jonathon Singleton. It looks like he’s going to be converted to the outfield with a logjam at first base but this guy had a very nice professional debut last year. I like his 74/62 strikeout to walk ratio and he hit .290 with some pop. He’s young though (19) and he’s at least two or three years away.
Number three is the top pitcher, Brody Colvin. Colvin is only 20 and he’s a few years away but like Singleton, he had a nice debut with 120 strikeouts in 138 innings. Jarred Cosart and Trevor May (both pitchers) round out the top and they’re both also a couple of years away. Fortunately the Phillies have a nice lineup because almost all of these guys will take some seasoning before their ready. Still, I like all of the talent (and trade bait) that we should see over the next few years.
