Paul Maholm Dominates Phillies

by @ 12:00 pm. Filed under 2008 Phillies

The Phillies lost to the Pirates today 5-1.  Pirates lefty starter, Paul Maholm, won the game in 99 pitches.  He only allowed 2 hits, and faced just 30 batters in the game.  He walked 4, but also got 2 double plays in the game.

Pat Burrell got one of the hits on a double in the 5th inning.  Eric Bruntlett then got the 2nd hit to drive in Burrell for the only run.  Bruntlett was then caught stealing when he took of for second on a pick off move by Maholm.

Brett Myers lasted 5 innings.  He pitched well, but gave up a leadoff homerun to Nate McClouth, and then another homer to the same man in the 5th inning.  Rudy Seanez gave up his first run of the season in the 6th.  Ryan Madson pitched the 7th, and Clay Condrey the 8th.

The Phillies come back home to take on the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.  Cole Hamels will face off against a long time favorite of mine, Greg Maddux.  Shane Victorino is scheduled to be back from his stint on the DL for the game, but there is no word yet to how much he will play.
