Phillies Lose in 10

by @ 9:27 pm. Filed under 2008 Phillies

So I think it should be a rule that Tom Gordon should not be allowed to pitch in the 9th inning or later of a game.  Granted tonight’s loss, 7-6 in 10 innings, is not all his fault.  There were two errors in the inning that led to Rick Ankiel scoring for the Cardinals.  One was charged to Chase Utley, the other to Gordon, but it was Utley’s poor throw that gave Gordon his error.

Brett Myer’s got knocked around pretty good again giving up 6 runs in 6 innings.  The bullpen pitched a scoreless 3 innings before Gordon came in.  Ryan Madson, JC Romero, and Chad Durbin each pitched an inning in the effort.

Ryan Howard had another big day going 2-4 with 4 RBIs.  I just cannot get a good read on him this year.  He has been the most inconsistent player in the majors.

The Phillies face another tough matchup tomorrow as they begin a series with the best team in the AL, the Boston Red Sox.  Cole Hamels takes on Bartolo Colon in his first start against Boston.  I’m done making predictions on games.
