The Phillies signed veteran outfielder Juan Pierre to a minor league deal and he’ll get an invitation to spring training. Pierre brings his 554 career stolen bases and his 2,020 career hits to the Phillies and he’ll have to contend with having a part time role if he even makes a team. The last time he played part time was way back in 2008.
With Pierre, you know what you’ll get. About a .270 batting average, some steals, some caught stealings (he’s lead the league seven times in that including the past two seasons) and not a lot of power. He also rarely strikeouts out but he also doesn’t walk much. He’s only 29 steals from cracking into the top 20 all time and he’s eighth all time in caught stealing.
