The LA Times reports that the Phillies have signed right hand relief pitcher Rudy Seanez.
Seanez was released by the Dodgers last week because he had an ERA that was over 7 in spring training. It also doesn’t help that he is 39 years old. Last year he pitched 76 innings in 73 games for the Dodgers. He posted a 3.79 ERA and struck out 73. I’m not sure if I like this pick up considering that the Dodgers obviously thought he wasn’t going to work for them after what he did this spring. He had a very good year for them last season, and they were willing to let him go. There must be something wrong with the way he is throwing. Maybe it’s the fact that he made his MLB debut in 1989!
I assume that Wes Helms is occupying the roster spot held by Brad Lidge and that he is going to be sent to the minors when Lidge returns. But now that Seanez is going to be added to the roster and activated before Wednesday’s game against the Nats, Helms might be moved now. This means that someone else will have to go once Lidge comes back. When Lidge returns that will put the pitching staff to a full 12, so that means a pitcher will be the one to go in exchange for Seanez. Clay Condrey might be the one to go.
