The Phillies scored 3 runs on a bases loaded double by Pat Burrell in the top of the 9th inning last night and held on to get the come from behind win over the Rockies 8-6. Brad Lidge recorded his 4th save on the season by going 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 strikeouts. Ryan Madson recorded the win in relief with pitching a scoreless 8th inning. Manny Corpas blew his 3rd save in 7 opportunities for the Rockies.
Chase Utley’s homerun streak came to an end. He was only able to go 2-5 with a 2 RBI double and a run scored. Come on, Chase. You need to pick it up.
Well I was right, and I hate being right. Ryan Howard did strike out 2 times, the exact way I said he would. Francis was able strike him out on slow, outside curveballs. Howard was nowhere close on either one. I don’t see why any team would pitch him any other way than that. He has proved that he can’t hit that pitch all season.
Pedro Feliz did not go deep, but he did have a big day. The third basemen went 3-5 on the day with a double and a run scored. Jayson Werth was the only Phillie to hit a 4 bagger. This time it was the more conventional way by crushing one out in left-center field.
Brett Myers pitched 7 inning, but gave up 6 earned runs. He gave up 2 homeruns and only struck out 3. He left the game trailing 6-5 but was taken off record when the Phills tied it up and took the lead in the 9th.
Once again, the Phillies’ bullpen was stellar. Although they only pitched 2 innings, they did not allow a run.
