Santana too Much for Phillies

by @ 8:19 pm. Filed under 2008 Phillies

It’s very difficult to win a game when you only get 2 hits in 9 innings.  That’s what happened yesterday as the Phillies lost the opener to the Angels 7-1.  Shane Victorino and Chris Coste were the only Phillies to tally a hit, and Victorino and Ryan Howard each drew walks.  The Phillies were even helped out by 4 Angels fielding errors, but could only make them count for 1 run (RBI Chase Utley).

I said Ervin Santana was good and he did not let me down.  He went 7 innings giving up the 2 hits and unearned run all while striking out 9 Phillies.  His counterpart, Adam Eaton, was not nearly as impressive.  Eaton gave up a whopping 12 hits, and 6 runs (all earned) in just 5 innings of work.  I had a feeling it was going to be a rough one when Vlad Guerrero went yard in the first inning with a man on.
